MEPs in Strasbourg have been reacting to the address made by Pope Francis in the European Parliament this morning. During his speech His Holiness emphasised the need to protect human dignity and democracy.  Immigration, the environment, and promoting human rights were among other topics he stressed in his speech. The Independent MEP Marian Harkin said his address resonated with many MEPs.

Loneliness and immigration were some of the key topics addressed by the Pope during his address to the European Parliament earlier today. His Holiness received a sustained standing ovation from MEPs after his compelling address which was punctuated by pleas for greater human dignity and human rights. The Pontiff followed his address to the Parliament with a visit to the Council of Europe. The Independent MEP Marian Harkin says she was impressed with how he described some of the current problems in Europe.
