MEPs in dispute over TTIP talks – Carthy

Divisions among members of the European
Parliament over certain aspects of the EU-US trade talks have led to a
postponement of a debate and vote on TTIP today. The MEPs were supposed to vote
today on the EU’s negotiating position on the Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership talks between the EU and the US. But divisions among
MEPs within the Parliament’s second-biggest block led to the postponement.
There’s disquiet in Europe over a controversial investor protection clause
known as an ISDS [Investor State Dispute Settlement clause] being negotiated.
The Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy who’s opposed to a TTIP deal, says the inclusion
of an ISDS agreement would be ‘unacceptable’.
