Withdrawal of all pesticides unknown impact – McGuinness

A withdrawal of all plant protection products from the market would have unknown consequences. That’s the warning from the Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness.

The European Parliament this week voted for plans to boost trust in the EU approval procedure of pesticides by making it more accountable and transparent.

The majority of MEPs approved a report that was put forward by a special European Parliament committee that was set up last February to investigate the authorisation procedure for pesticides. It was established after the controversial 5-year renewal of glyphosate.

Some MEPs want to ban all pesticides while others say they’re needed to protect crops. Here’s Mairead McGuinness.
