EU-US trade dispute settlement system has ‘chill factor’ – Boylan
MEPs today voted in favour of the on-going trade
talks between the EU and the US known as TTIP. The majority of MEPs voted for a
number of recommendations that they want to see included in the Transatlantic
Trade and Investment Partnership talks known as TTIP. One of the most
controversial aspects of the talks concerns the investor-state dispute
settlement mechanism [ISDS] that gives firms the power to sue governments over
policies they’re not happy with. Today the MEPs backed proposals that call for
any such disputes to be settled publically and transparently. However, the Sinn
Fein MEP Lynn Boylan who’s against any TTIP deal, says the proposed changes will
not work.
