The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness says
the EU Commission needs to intervene early when there’s price volatility and other
market uncertainties in the dairy industry. The MEP for the Midlands North-West
constituency was commenting on a recent report issued by the European
Parliament’s Agriculture committee. The Committee found that the high degree of
price volatility along with other recurring crises make investments in
livestock and other production methods very difficult. MEPs say the EU should develop better ways of responding to
volatile changes in the dairy sector. Here’s Mairead

The large chunk of media in Ireland that’s
owned by Denis O’Brien’s media empire is to questioned at an EU level. The Sinn
Fein MEP Lynn Boylan will today submit an official question to the EU
Competition Commissioner. She wants the Commissioner to investigate whether or
not there are any competition issues in relation to Mr O’Brien’s ownership of
Irish media outlets.
