Irish government must get ECB to engage in inquiry – Carthy

The Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy says the refusal of the ECB to participate in the Irish Banking inquiry shows their disregard for democratically elected parliaments. Mr Carthy was speaking in the European Parliament. He has called on his fellow MEPs to put pressure on the European Central Bank to cooperate with the Irish Banking inquiry. Last week the ECB president Mario Draghi said they wouldn’t formally participate in any such inquiry. Here’s Matt Carthy.

Carthy calls on MEPs to force ECB’s cooperation on Bank inquiry

A Sinn Fein MEP is calling on his European colleagues to put pressure on the European Central Bank to cooperate with the Irish Banking inquiry. Last week the ECB president Mario Draghi said the ECB would not formally participate  in such an inquiry. Matt Carthy, who represents the Midlands North West Constituency, says such a stance reflects the ECBs disregard for democratically elected Parliaments.

MEPs today vote on motion of censure against Juncker

MEPs in the European Parliament are voting today on a motion of censure against the EU Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker. The motion was tabled by 76 MEPs who say Mr Juncker’s reputation and credibility have been damaged by the so-called Lux Leaks. The Independent MEP Marian Harkin says the leaks have tainted Mr Juncker’s ability to be seen as an objective broker.
