EU-wide version of CAB needed to tackle international crime – Hayes

An EU version of the Irish Criminal Assets
Bureau is needed to take down criminal kingpins. That’s according to the Fine
Gael MEP Brian Hayes, who criticised the EU for being too relaxed in tackling
international crime. He was speaking in the European Parliament where MEPs will
this week debate the need for better EU-wide information exchange to deal with
crime and terrorism. Mr Hayes says other EU states should follow the example
set by the CAB especially those countries where Irish criminals are based.

A ‘Brexit’ would justify referendum on the North – Anderson

A referendum on a united Ireland would be
justified if the UK left the EU. That’s according to the Sinn Fein MEP Martina
Anderson who was speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Her
comments follow recent statements by the former Scottish First Minister Alex
Salmond. He said a UK exit from the EU could trigger another independence
referendum in Scotland. Martina Anderson says Northern Ireland ‘will be shackled’
to Britain and that partition will be ‘copper fastened’ if the UK votes to
leave the EU on June 23rd.
