Fishermen could ‘go under’ if quota cuts implemented – Ni Riada

EU fisheries ministers are currently
meeting in Brussels to decide on next year’s fishing quotas. According to the Sinn
Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada the proposed quotas will mean substantial cuts to
fishing of cod, haddock and monkfish. The Ireland South MEP has called on
Minister Simon Coveney to get a better deal.
She says the proposed cuts will have a
devastating impact on Irish fishermen if they go ahead.

Fishing quota cuts will have ‘devastating impact’ – Ni Riada

The EU fishing quotas for 2016 are currently
being decided at an EU fisheries council meeting today in Brussels. The quotas
will set out how much EU fishermen may catch from the main commercial fish
stocks next year. The Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada says the proposed quota cuts
are bad news for Irish fishermen. And she’s calling on Minister Simon Coveney
to urge for a reduction in the cuts.

Bandon badly served by officials and red tape on floods – Kelly

Flood hit towns like Bandon have been badly
served by officials who failed to implement flood prevention measures in
time. That’s the criticism from the Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly. He says EU money
was available to help places like Bandon to build flood defences. But the
Ireland South MEP says preventative action wasn’t implemented in time.
