Apple Tax ruling ‘vague’ and ‘unknown’ – Harkin

The recent EU Commission ruling on Apple’s tax arrangements with Ireland leaves many unanswered questions that need to be dealt with in the European Court of Justice. That’s the verdict of the Independent MEP Marian Harkin who was speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg. MEPs yesterday debated the Apple ruling with the EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager. However, the Midlands North-West MEP believes Ms Vestager’s ruling on Apple requires further clarification.

Harkin slams EU Commission for refusing to answer €13bn question

The Independent MEP Marian Harkin has strongly criticised the European Commission for refusing to answer a question about the thirteen billion euro in back taxes the Commission claims Apple should give back to Irish taxpayers. The Midlands North-West MEP had questioned the EU Competition Commissioner Margrethe Vestager about her recent ruling on Apple during a debate in the European Parliament yesterday. Marian Harkin asked Commissioner Vestager to provide assurance that the €13 billion ‘Apple tax’ would be available for use in Ireland.  However,the Commissioner never addressed her query.
