MEPs call for tighter controls of antibiotics in animals – Boylan

The European Parliament is calling for tighter
regulation of rules governing the prescription of veterinary antibiotics to animals. The MEPs
want to stop the practice of mass medication of animals with antibiotics in
order to cure a couple of sick animals on farms. They say the over prescription
of antibiotics to both humans and animals is leading to an increased resistance
to infections and common diseases. The Sinn Fein MEP Lynn Boylan says this resistance
is taking its toll annually in Europe.
