The European Parliament has voted to set up
a European platform to tackle undeclared work. Undeclared work is legal work which has not been properly declared to the authorities.
It can lead to workers being denied basic social and labour rights and it is a
major problem within the EU. Not only do governments miss out on revenue from
taxes and social security contributions but workers are also less protected.
The Sinn Fein MEP Lynn Boylan says undeclared work is a significant issue in
Ireland.
