‘Very very tense’ times for Europe over Greece – McGuinness

The President of the European Commission
has said that the Greeks voted on a text last weekend that is no longer on the
table. Jean-Claude Juncker spoke about the Greek crisis in the European
Parliament in Strasbourg this morning. He told MEPs he did not want Greece to
exit the Eurozone and that a solution needs to be found to end the Greek
crisis. The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness, who watched Mr Juncker’s address,
says that times are tense at the moment because of what’s happening in Greece.

European Parliament votes for better governance at FIFA

The European Parliament today voted for
better governance at FIFA. MEPs overwhelmingly passed a resolution calling for
a ‘zero-tolerance policy on  corruption
in football’. The MEPs welcomed the resignation of the former FIFA president
Sett Blatter. And they called on the Federation to appoint an interim president
to replace him. The Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly, who’s a former president of the
GAA, says a range of changes needs to be made at the very top levels of
FIFA.
