EU investment plan failing SMEs in Ireland – Ni Riada

The European Commission’s multi-billion
euro investment plan has failed to provide help for small businesses in
Ireland. So says the Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada. This week the European
Parliament debated the progress of the so-called Juncker plan one year after
its creation. The €315 billion plan aims to reenergise stagnant growth and
unemployment across Europe. However, Ms Ni Riada says small Irish businesses
are having difficulties accessing the plan’s funds.

Panamanian government should attend EU Panama papers hearings -Hayes

The Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes is demanding that
the Panamanian government appear before MEPs to answer questions in relation to
the recent Panama Papers scandal.
The leaked
documents showed how the rich and powerful use tax havens to hide their wealth.
The
files were leaked from one of the world’s most secretive companies, a
Panamanian law firm called Mossack Fonseca.
The European
Parliament this week established an inquiry committee to investigate
revelations of alleged tax avoidance schemes in Panama. Mr Hayes who will sit
on the committee, wants representatives from Mossack Fonseca and the Panamanian
government to attend the hearings.
