Minute’s silence for victims of Brussels attacks in European Parliament – Ni Riada

MEPs stood for a minute’s silence last
night for those killed and injured in the recent terrorist attacks in Brussels,
during the opening session of the European Parliament’s plenary session in
Strasbourg.  The
Parliament’s President Martin Schulz condemned the
attacks as a cruel, inhuman and cynical attempt to infect Europeans with fear
and hatred. MEPs will today debate ways to fight terrorism in Europe. The Sinn
Fein MEP Liadh Ni Riada says there are no easy ways to tackle the terrorist
threat in Europe.

The recent terrorist attacks in Brussels
and ways to fight terrorism in Europe will be debated by MEPs in the European
Parliament today. Last night MEPs stood for a minute’s silence for the 32 people
killed and 340 injured in the attacks, during the opening session of the
European Parliament’s plenary session in Strasbourg.  The
Parliament’s

Kids’ healthy eating schemes could cost more than necessary – Carthy

The Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy says the
merging of an EU-wide school milk and fruit and vegetable scheme could cost more than
necessary. The European Parliament last week adopted a new draft law to ensure
children in the EU benefit from better-funded combined school milk, fruit and
vegetable schemes. While supporting the plan, Matt Carthy says the scheme could
be jeopardised because of unnecessary costs.
