Coordinated efforts needed to build nationwide cycleways – McGuinness

The potential to use EU funds to build a nationwide infrastructure of cycle and walk ways is possible provided Ireland applies nationwide strategic plans. So says the Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness who was speaking at the European Parliament in Strasbourg. Her comments come as the EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker this morning presents a €315 billion jobs, growth and investment package to boost business and reduce unemployment in the EU. Ms McGuinness says she can see how some of these funds could be used for the rollout of cycle and pathways across the country. But she’s warning, a proper strategic plan needs to be put in place.
