New EU tax rules will expose secret tax deals with multinationals – Hayes

Dodgy tax practices
involving State deals with multinationals will be subject to much greater
scrutiny once new EU rules come into place. That’s the view of the Fine Gael
MEP Brian Hayes.  He was speaking in the
European Parliament which today expressed its opinion on what’s called the Mandatory
Exchange of Information Directive. When it comes into force in 2017, this new
EU law will oblige EU countries to share information on any “tax ruling” deals
they grant to multinationals based there. Brian Hayes now explains.

Tax deals can no longer be kept hidden in the EU – Hayes

Secretive tax deals between
individual EU countries and multinational companies based in those countries
will have to be made available to all EU states. That’s the recommendation from
the Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes. The European Parliament today expressed its
opinion on new EU rules that will oblige EU member states to share information
on any “tax ruling” deals they grant to multinational companies. Brian Hayes
says that will mean
tax authorities in the EU, including the Irish Revenue
authorities, will have to share sensitive tax details about companies operating
in their territories with other tax authorities.
