Birthplace of GAA must have its history preserved – Kelly

The GAA needs to discuss the preservation of the Hayes hotel in Thurles, Co Tipperary with its new proprietor. So says the Fine Gael MEP and former GAA president Sean Kelly. In 1884 the GAA was founded in the hotel’s billiard room. It recently fell into financial difficulty, going into receivership last April. It was purchased by a Tipperary native at an auction in the RDS yesterday for €650,000. Mr Kelly told EuroParlRadio that the GAA must discuss the necessity of preserving the historic significance of the Hotel with its new owner and be willing to offer help.
