European Parliament looks for new ways to promote gender equality

The European Union is looking for a new strategy to
promote equality between men and women beyond 2015. The gender gap in equality was
debated in the European Parliament last night. According to a European
Parliament report, progress on gender equality in the EU is too slow. MEPs say
much more needs to be done to bridge the gender equality gap. The Fine Gael MEP,
Deidre Clune says the EU needs to bring in laws that will force employers to
provide equal pay for the same work regardless of the sex of the employee.

Former GAA President ‘surprised’ at €5m FAI payout

The former GAA president, Sean Kelly, has
strongly criticised the FAI for taking a €5million pay-out from FIFA over
Thierry Henry’s controversial handball in the 2009 world cup play-off. Mr Kelly
was speaking in the European Parliament which will debate the FIFA corruption scandals tomorrow.  The Ireland
South MEP is recommending that the FAI hand back the €5million it got from FIFA
and ask for a grant instead.
