European Parliament postpones TTIP [EU-US Trade talks] debate/vote – Carthy

The European Parliament has postponed a
critical debate and vote on the EU-US trade talks negotiations known as TTIP
the [Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership]. The MEPs were supposed to
vote today on the EU’s negotiating position on the Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership talks. But divisions among
MEPs within the Parliament’s second-biggest block led to the postponement.
There’s disquiet in Europe over a controversial investor protection clause known
as an ISDS [Investor State Dispute Settlement clause] being negotiated. The
Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy is against a TTIP deal.

Ni Riada calls for ‘cultural exclusion’ clause for Ireland in EU-US Trade talks

The Sinn Fein MEP is calling for a
‘cultural exclusion’ clause for Ireland in any free trade deal brokered between
the EU and the US. The European Parliament has made a number of recommendations
to the European Commission for its Transatlantic Trade and Investment
Partnership [TTIP] talks with the US. Ms Ni Riada says any such free trade deal
could jeopardise Irish cultural and audio-visual industries. She says Ireland
should be entitled to the same cultural exclusion clause that France managed to
broker.
