Carthy raises Irish home repossessions in European Parliament

The repossessions of people’s homes in
Ireland has been raised in the European Parliament by an Irish MEP.  The Sinn Fein MEP Matt Carthy spoke about repossessions
in Ireland during the week when he addressed the Parliament. Mr Carthy says
Europeans don’t understand that austerity is still affecting large numbers of

EU-US trade talks will lead to job displacements – Harkin

A free trade deal between the EU and the US
will lead to job losses as well as job creations. That’s the view of the
Independent MEP Marian Harkin. She was referring to the Transatlantic Trade and
Investment Partnership deal that’s being negotiated between the EU and the US.
The European Parliament this week postponed a key debate and vote on TTIP
because of differences among MEPs over a controversial Investor State Dispute
Settlement mechanism. Marian Harkin says that in principle she’s for a TTIP
deal but that there will be downsides to it.
