European Parliament ups ante on animal cloning ban

The European Parliament today voted for proposals to extend a ban on animal
cloning to include the cloning of all farm animals, their descendants and
products derived from them. The proposed ban would include any imported animal
products derived from cloning methods. The MEPs are calling for the cloning ban
because they say it leads to cruelty to animals and that there are general
ethical issues surrounding cloning methods. The Parliament referred to findings
that they say show
a majority of EU citizens strongly
oppose the consumption of food from animal clones. The Sinn Fein MEP Lynn
Boylan welcomed today’s vote.
