British under pressure to invoke Article 50 – Hayes

The Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes says he
understands pressure is being put on the British government to invoke Article
50 of the Lisbon Treaty to trigger British withdrawal from the EU. The Dublin
MEP was speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg where Brexit has
dominated debates this week. Mr Hayes says the EU want the British to trigger
exit negotiations once the new leader of the Tory party is decided which is
likely to be sometime in September.

Swift progress on British-EU trade deal ‘vital’ for Ireland– Hayes

It’s critical that a trade deal between
Britain and the EU does not take years to conclude. That’s the warning from the
Fine Gael MEP Brian Hayes. Mr Hayes, who was speaking in the European
Parliament, referred to the current trade deal that’s being brokered between
Canada and the EU. He said the CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade
Agreement) deal has taken 8 (eight) years to conclude. And the Dublin MEP
warns, the Canada deal would pale in significance to a future EU-UK deal.
