Border control restrictions will result from Bexit -McGuinness

Border controls between the north and south
of Ireland would be inevitable should the UK leave the EU. That’s the view of the
Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness. This week in the European Parliament Fine
Gael’s four MEPs exchanged views with British MEPs from both sides of the
in-out debate on the impact of a possible Brexit. Ms McGuinness said she
described to her British counterparts the negative consequences of a closed
border between both parts of the Island.

MEP calls for elimination of unfair trading practices in EU food sector – McGuinness

The Fine Gael MEP Mairead McGuinness is
calling for the elimination of unfair trading practices in the EU’s food sector.
The Midlands North-West MEP was speaking after t
he European Parliament this week called
on the European Commission to legislate against trading practices that
negatively impact on farmers. MEPs want to see fair and transparent relations
among food suppliers, distributors and producers. Here’s Mairead McGuinness.

EU has no right to set national tax rates – Harkin

The EU Commission has no right to dictate
the tax rates of EU member states. That’s the warning from the Independent MEP
Marian Harkin. She was speaking in the European Parliament where MEPs this week
adopted a resolution supporting a European Commission anti-tax avoidance
package. However, a number of Irish MEPs including Marian Harkin expressed concerns
that the Commission plans may interfere with the tax sovereignty of EU
countries.
