Safety & sensitivities of female refugees must be recognised – Clune

The European Parliament is calling for the
reform of EU migration and asylum policies to ensure the safety of women
seeking refuge in EU countries. MEPs this week voted for a series measures to
ensure that women’s specific needs are met throughout the asylum process.
The measures include
segregated sleeping and sanitation
facilities, female interviewers, translators and interpreters and childcare
services during the asylum process. The Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune says that
the difficulties faced by vulnerable female refugees must be taken into
account.

‘We need to face up to our responsibilities’ on refugee crisis – McGuinness

MEPs have this morning been debating
plans outlined at this week’s EU-Turkey summit to tackle the refugee crisis in
Europe. The United Nations has expressed concerns over the so-called “one in
one out” proposal outlined at the summit. The plan
envisages
resettling a Syrian from Turkey to an EU country for every Syrian readmitted by
Turkey from the Greek Islands.
The Fine Gael MEP
Mairead McGuinness says that the challenges in resolving the refugee crisis are
huge.
